USA wins international college tourney

For the ninth time in the last 11 years, the USA triumphed in the Master’U BNP Paribas tournament in Grenoble, France.

It’s an eight-nation university championship.

As was the case a year ago, the Americans beat the Brits in the final.

Upstart Ireland came third.

The American squad included Michaela Gordon (Stanford), Alexa Graham (UNC), Keegan Smith (UCLA) and Aleks Kovacevic (Illinois).

Team Great Britain included Maia Lumsden, Emily Arbuthnott (Stanford), George Houghton and Dan Little (Utah).

As it happened, Stanford teammates Gordon and Arbuthnott squared off in the first match, with Gordon winning 63 57 61.
