No US Open for Andy Murray

Former No. 1 Andy Murray had planned to play doubles and mixed at the US Open – and resume his singles comeback after that.

But now, he told the BBC that he won’t play in New York at all, after having to decide Monday whether or not to accept a singles wild card and opting not to.


Murray will play singles at the Winston-Salem Open next week, and has committed to several tournaments in Asia in the fall.

If he doesn’t do well next week, he said he’ll consider dropping down to the Challenger level to get more matches.
