Kristina Mladenovic has two Grand Slam women’s doubles titles, two mixed doubles titles, has won the year-end championships and has made six other major Slam finals.
But she’s never been No. 1.
Her career high is No. 2, reached in Oct. 2016.
That could change, as the 26-year-old Frenchwoman will top the rankings on Monday – unless Elise Mertens wins the French Open women’s doubles title with partner Aryna Sabalenka.
Mertens and Sabalenka play Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko Thursday in a rain-delayed quarterfinal.
If they win, they would battle Babos and Mladenovic in Friday’s semifinal for that top spot.
