ESPN to air Wimbledon roof opening

There will be a “celebration” of the inauguration of the roof over No. 1 Court at Wimbledon Sunday.

And ESPNNews will air it live at 9 a.m. EDT.

John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova will test out playing conditions under the roof. Former champions Goran Ivanisevic and Venus Williams also will take part, along with Jamie Murray.

There also will be musical entertainment.

You hope, of course, that the new roof (estimated cost: $90 million) will never have to be used and will stay tucked away.

Because that, of course, would mean and stoppage of play on all the outside courts.
