Osaka sister gets Miami WC

There is precedent for less-accomplished siblings of top players to get wild cards into smaller ATP and WTA-level tournaments.

Notably, Novak Djokovic’s brothers Marko and Djordje have benefited. In Marseille last month, Stefanos Tsitsipas’s younger brother Petros (who has no ranking) joined him in doubles.

But at the Miami Open next week, IMG gifted world No. 1 Naomi Osaka’s older sister Mari a main draw singles wild card into one of the biggest events on tour.

Mari Osaka, who turns 23 April 3, is ranked No. 336.  She has never won a match at the WTA level (she’s 0-3 in qualifying matches).
