Vandeweghe plans Indian Wells return

American Coco Vandeweghe hasn’t had much luck in recent months.

An ankle sprain contributed to eight first-round defeats since she reached the semis of ‘s-Hertogenbosch last June. Along with the new foot injury, her ranking tumbled from No. 15 to outside the top 100.

“I was super pumped to get going, to have a great year. The next thing I know, I’m in the (emergency room) and then unable to move for awhile. Just a real tough experience,” Vandeweghe told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The 27-year-old told the newspaper, optimistically, she hopes to be back for Indian Wells.
