First two pullouts from Australian Open

With the Australian Open three weeks away, we have the first two official withdrawals.

First up is Richard Gasquet. At No. 26, the Frenchman would have been seeded. And so, No. 33 ranked Steve Johnson is guaranteed a seed.

Second is Slovakia’s Josef Kovalik, No. 85. Kovalik hasn’t played since losing in the first round of US Open qualifying.

Moving into the main draw: France’s Ugo Humbert and American Michael Mmoh.

For Humbert, it’s relief. Ranked a career-best No. 84 after a breakthrough season, he was entered at No. 102 because of the “new” ranking that removes lower-level Futures results.
