Wimbledon No. 1 Court roof getting there

During this year’s Wimbledon, these massive white structures were lined up on the front practice courts at Aorangi Park.

But the retractable roof on No. 1 Court, which will open next year on the 10th anniversary of a similar structure over Centre Court, is well on its way.

Wimbledon posted a quick time-lapse video of the installation of the trusses, which weigh 650 tons.

Next year, there will therefore be two courts available for play (and TV) during rain delays.

Ironically, of course, since the installation of the first roof, it’s hardly rained during Wimbledon.
