Ladies, pack your (Wimbledon) bags

Now that Wimbledon is over, all of those tennis bags and rackets the manufacturers supplied to their players for the big event have to be shoved back in the closet.

In the ongoing tussle inside the alphabet soup of tennis, The WTA Tour has a rule about using equipment identified with the logo or name of a Grand Slam.

Players who do it will be subject to a fine of up to $5,000 (see page 110 of the rule book).

The rationale is the need to “be respectful” of the identity of the WTA Tour.
