Stuttgart champ Siegemund returns

After the thrill of winning her hometown Stuttgart event last April, Germany’s Laura Siegemund’s season ended a few weeks later during a match at the WTA event in Nürnberg.

She had surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Siegemund is finally back, playing in Charleston this week – with a big knee brace. At No. 74 currently, she got in without a protected ranking.

The 30-year-old played three matches at a $25K ITF event in Italy, three weeks ago, her first official action since the injury.

She defeated Natalia Vikhlyantseva of Russia 7-5, 6-2 in the first round.
