The big day finally arrived Friday for tennis lovebirds Fabio Fognini and Flavia Pennetta, as Pennetta gave birth to son Federico.
Federico Fognini (that’s just musical, that is) is named for the late Federico Luzzi, another Italian professional player who was very close to Pennetta.

Luzzi was just 28 when he died of leukemia in 2008.
Fortuitously, Fognini lost the previous day at the Italian Open to Alexander Zverev. You know the imminent arrival had to be on his mind. And he wasn’t on the other side of the planet. Timing is everything.
