“Venus Williams Scholarship” at IEU

Venus Williams was the first player to get her degree at Indiana East University through the WTA Tour’s tuition program.

She’ll now have a scholarship named for her.

Williams isn’t putting up the money. Her former math teacher, Jane Richards, and her husband Larry are donating $25,000.

IU East isn’t just an online school (Sloane Stephens also graduated). It’s a branch of Indiana University. Its tennis teams play in the Division II River States Conference.

“We are honored that she has agreed to let this scholarship be named for her,” Jane Richards said.
