Fernandez, Oudin fundraise for P.R.

Just because Puerto Rico is no longer in the headlines (there have been a few newsbombs lately) doesn’t mean the hurricane-ravaged island isn’t still in serious difficulty.

And tennis did its part Saturday to try to help.

Retired American champion Gigi Fernandez, a native of Puerto Rico, joined with Melanie Oudin and the Atlanta tennis community to raise over $50,000 at the Coosa Club in Rome, Georgia.

The money will be used to restore neighbourhood tennis facilities and fund children’s tennis programs on the island.
