Anna Schmiedlova rises again


Anna Schmiedlova, the Slovakian who rose to No. 26 at age 21 in 2015, dropped right off the radar after that.

That 2015 season included two WTA titles, a final, and quarterfinals at big Premier events in Wuhan and Cincinnati. And then – vapor.


By the end of 2016, she was down to No. 227 and while she rallied in 2017, she didn’t even try to play in Australia, Paris or Wimbledon.

Schmiedlova announced her return in Bogotá Sunday, winning the title.

Just in time, too. With the bump up to No. 84 in Monday’s rankings, she’ll be straight into the French Open.
