Paolo Maldini spent 25 years with AC Milan and 14 years representing Italy. But the legendary defender has found a new competitive avenue.

An unranked recreational player who doesn’t play senior events, Maldini won a doubles tournament at the Aspria Harbour Club where his partner and coach Stefano Landonio works.

As it happens, the club will host the Milan Challenger next week. And the winning team received a wild card into the doubles main draw.

So next Monday, on Maldini’s 49th birthday, he likely will make his “professional” tennis debut.
