It’s not easy even at the best of times to get top players to play in ATP 250 events. But the week before a Grand Slam?

It appeared early on that Lyon had won the battle of the 250s in getting Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios, Juan Martin del Potro and, late, Tomas Berdych. But the Geneva Open finished strongly, snaring Kei Nishikori at the 11th hour.

Luckily native son Stan Wawrinka also took a wild card into Geneva. They’ve had him on their promotional posters since early December. But he never officially entered.
