Big names missing at Masters 1000

Nine-time champ Rafael Nadal will be there. But many stars are MIA for next week’s Monte Carlo Open. It’s a Masters 1000-level event, but the fields usually trail Madrid and Rome, the other big spring clay-court events leading up to Roland Garros. Among the “no”s: Roger Federer, Juan Martin del Potro, Milos Raonic, Kei Nishikori, Nick Kyrgios and French favorites Gaël Monfils and Richard Gasquet. New father Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and banged up Andy Murray are still in, but with few expectations.

It makes this video a little ironic.
